As a lifelong photographer, my simple goal has been to produce compelling images. Starting with black and white film and a Canon rangefinder camera, I began my photographic journey while still in my teens. As an avid observer of people and places, my camera has become a trusty sidekick, recording my perspectives of the people and places that I come across. These images are the product of my perspective, mood, and desire to express the emotion of life’s moments with light and color. I endeavor to find art in the everyday, beauty in the overlooked and the divinity in capturing moments that would otherwise be lost; a recordkeeping of the “fleeting art” of daily life.
As the technology of photography has changed, so has my ability to create images that travel beyond a strict photographic world. With the capabilities of modern cameras and the digital darkroom, I can produce a far greater range of styles and coloration than I could ever achieve in the darkroom.
Utilizing either film or digital photographs as a starting place, the images are imported into a digital darkroom. Often the photographs speak for themselves, requiring minimal digital touch-up. Sometimes the product I seek is more deeply embedded in the raw image and more robust techniques are used to achieve the desired results. The path that each picture takes in its development is less important to me than the quality of the final image. Regardless of whether the camera or the computer does most of the work, I strive to create images that are evocative and memorable. The fantastic range of the digital pallet allows images that can explode with color, creating a vivid spectrum from which to elicit responses from the observer. I hope you like them.
All photos are taken candidly and without studios or staging.
